Willoughby House Remodel by Dever Design & Build

Our client liked to entertain family and friends during the holidays and special events, and her home just wasn’t able to provide enough “open space” to accommodate all of the guests in a more comfortable and inviting atmosphere. So, we set out to remove as many walls as possible to make the kitchen, dining room, living room and family room larger; including adding a much-needed large island as the centerpiece. Removing most of the walls around those spaces was a great challenge, as all walls were load-bearing structural walls. Once we were able to accommodate the structural needs, we focused our attention on the design and finish details that certainly made a huge difference in the overall feel and flow of all rooms.

Another piece to this puzzle was the existing rear sunroom, which was an unheated space with a painted plywood ceiling, not inviting at all, because it was unheated, they could not use the sunroom as an overflow space during parties in the Winter. We were able to vault the ceiling and install a tongue and groove dark stained ceiling, with LED lighting, ceiling fan and a mini-split heat/cool unit for year-round comfort. The laundry room next to the kitchen was also renovated to provide better storage space around the laundry space, as well as a mini bar area.

All in all, our client absolutely loves her new home, she’s already talking about having our company remodel her master bed/bath area. Here are some of the products that we installed: Elkay quartz kitchen sink in greystone, Moen Genta one handle pull-down kitchen faucet in matt black, Flag Mountain luxury vinyl flooring in color of Syrup, laundry room backsplash Soho 3×6 tile in Soft Sage Glossy with #949 Silverado grout, kitchen backsplash Soho 4×6 tile in Soft Sage Glossy with #949 Silverado grout (all tiles installed in 1/3 staggered pattern), Homecrest Sedona maple (full overlay) cabinets in the kitchen and laundry room, and 3cm Eternal Calacatta Gold quartz countertops in the kitchen and laundry room.
